Diabetic kidney disease

Hi

My name is Marc and i am a 34 year old UK male.

I am not a diabetic but I have been spending a lot of time recently at the Dr's and urologists office with the following symptoms:

Painful urination (no cause found - yet!)
Cloudy urine
High protein levels in urine

I have been researching my symptoms online and I came across this condition - Diabetic kidney disease - I read through the symptoms and as well as having high protein levels in my urine I am also suffering from lots of the other symptoms including:

Severe heartburn
fatigue
and swollen limbs (My knee as been extremely tender for weeks)

I've never mentioned these symptoms to my Dr'd because I just thought my knee problems were down to straining it or something and the heartburn and fatigue down to just a busy life etc

To my knowledge neither my GP or specialist have checked my blood sugar levels, they are more fixed on giving me high dose antibiotics and having cystoscopy carried out to check my bladder.

My question is - Would Diabetic kidney disease affect my blood sugar levels? If yes, would they be high/low? My dad also suffers from type 2 diabetes.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Marc

Go and have a free BGs test at Lloyds chemist, aim for about two hours after breakfast or lunch.

Anything over say 8mmol might need a doctors attention and they will send the info on to him/her.

The doctor might then do a more accurate test and be able to diagnose you. If you ask he or she might do one anyway.

I am not a doctor, and cannot diagnose your problem, but it looks like your doctor is treating you for some sort of UTI. You need to discuss your concerns with your doctor, and always tell him/her of all the symptoms you have, and that your dad is T2.

So go back to your doctor, ask for a blood sugar test, tell him/her about your symptoms and let us know how you get on.
