Hi there, I have had Diabetes for 24yrs now. I am 35yrs of age and have recently been very ill with Nerve problems.
It has made a lot of changes to my life and not for the good side of things. I'm finding it hard living with Diabetic Neuropathy had it recently for 5mths now but in the last month I was also Diagnosed with Sensory Nerve problems too. Anyone experiencing any of these Nerve problems and how do you deal with things. I'm trying to accept it and still be happy but it's hard when I have problems with working f/t I have to work p/t now and even had to go off sick for 4wks with the New Neuropathy Problem I have. My social life has changed too.
Any advice on this please.
Thanks Angela.

Hello Angela_T.
All I know is that Diabetic Neuropathy is caused by high blood sugars over a period of time. You need to address your blood sugars and keep tight control over them to prevent the condition from getting worse. Diabetic Neuropathy can be treated - but, you need to go and see your GP for pain medication on prescription. Hope this is of some help.:bored:

Hi Liam, thank you for your advice I am on Gabapentin for the pain but follow units of as and when I eat units followed by what I eat just finding it hard even though strict with myself why I get hypos of a night then high of a morning so hard.

Hello Angela_T, when i was 1st diagnosed t2 in oct 14, my bs's were26.8 mmols and my feet were killing me it felt like walking on broken glass,my doc gave me metformn 500 x2 and said lose some weight and try not to eat to much sugery stuff! Well i struck gold finding this forum, and by the good advice i received here i got my bs's down to 5.5 mmols within 4 months,my feet got better and for the last 18 months have not had any recurrence of neuropathy in my feet,Angela, are you t2 as well? Clive

Hi Angela_T.
I take Lyrica (Pregabalin) and Tramadol for Pain from Herniated Disc's in my lower spine and for the pain from Sciatica. Both these tablets can be prescribed for Diabetic Neuropathy but your GP has to prescribed them - because Tramadol is a member of the Opiate group. I use "alternative" home treatments for the pain = Heat Pads I find these help with the pain and you can buy these quite cheap in some shops. Then there is those creams like: Deep Heat etc, you could try these? Sorry Angela that I cannot be of more help!!!:(

Hi Liam, sorry to hear you have Sciatica I really am bless you. Thank you so much for replying and some advice is better than none that's what I say and sometimes it helps to express you feelings with others so thank you.

I have it in my hands and feet, having an operation on Friday to cut the carpel in my wrist to stop the muscle wating any further than it has already
Dear Gaz M, I wish you all the best Friday with the Operation and if it's giving you so much pain and you have tried everything it's worth a try. I really do wish you all the best let me know how it goes.

Hi Angela,
I am diabetic (type 2) since 2000 and i was having numbness throughout all my extremities. last year a dear friend of mine suggested to try alpha lipoic acid couple with magnessium and chromium picolinate suppliment. I did and 6 months and 8 days after the tingling sensations and numbness on my fingertips, palms and even some of my toes... all gone now. I am not sure which really helps it gone... aside from those suppliments I also push myself to do regular 30 min run on my threadmill, and almost the same time too, started drinking 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar diluted with glass of water.

early last year i was weighing around 130 kg (obese)
now just under 93kg (still obese ... targeting 73-78 kg)
recent HBA1C 7.8 from 9.4
today's FBG 7.1

my meds are: metformin, amaryl, coversyl, novorapid, lantus, aldactone

goodluck to you and wishing you well.

Hello Dong, Thank you for your reply I will try that although the fitness well lets say I'm lucky if I can walk so I will have to pass on the running part and maybe try light exercises at home to keep the muscles working still. But thank you I will look into the supplements. I'm so sorry you went through that pain as it is excruciating I get that now in legs as well and my Sensory Nerves are going so I keep dropping things clumsily I end up getting so frustrated with myself as I can't do it and end up swearing even tho don't want to it's just the release of frustration I try not to tho as don't like swearing. I was told Milk helps with Muscle build up and can help with my strength do you know if it's truth or myth? So glad your better :)
