I wondered if any one has some advice. I was diagnosed with Diabeties arround Oct 2011 which at first was managed with diet. Approximately six months later I was prescribed Metformin to aid my diet. At this time my HbA1C was about 50. In September 2012 I suffered from blurred vision and my HbA1C had risen to 80. My GP increase my Metformin and introduced Gliclazide over a short period of time until I was on 2000mg of Metformin & 320mg of Gliclazide. My blood sugars were still above 12mmol and so just before Christmas they introduced insulin. I was started on 10 units a day of Humulin I, which was increased upto 14 units over about one month. Approximately one month ago I started experiencing Hypos. My Diabetic Nurse decreased my Gliclazide but still having Hypos, my HbA1C was retested which is back down to 50, and now they have stopped my Insulin. I am now taking 2000mg of Metformin and 80mg Gliclazide in the morning with breakfast and 160mg with dinner. My problem is I am still having Hypos, mainly mid morning but sometimes also in the afternoon. My blood sugars at times have been lower than 2.5.

Hi. I think the only solution currently would be to reduce the Gliclazide for the simple reason that you apparently don't need it at present. It's purpose is to stimulate the pancreas but as you appear to have adequate insulin then surely it's not needed at least at the 80gm/160gm level? It may not be easy to work out why your blood sugars have gone back down and they may go up again but you can only deal with your state of diabetes today. I would suggest you contact the nurse and suggest a reduction to the Gliclazide?
