Diabetic peripheral neuropathy

I do not have diabetes
I have been doing some research into long term effects of type 1 diabetes and the most common side effect is diabetic neuropathy - I am interested in learning more about this condition, perhaps doing a research project…
Google tells me that diabetic peripheral neuropathy is the most prevalent type of diabetic neuropathy but is this actually true? Does anyone here have this condition? Also, what is the difference between the different types of diabetic neuropathy because they seem kind of similar?

Hi @Mariannr , welcome to the forum.

In your other post (https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/th...er-some-personal-questions.31584/post-2647674) you told us you're interested in doing a research project about diabetes to learn more about the condition because your friend recently got diagnosed with T1.
Complications like neuropathy take many years or decades to develop, and they may not ever develop at all, especially in the ones who are diagnosed recently, now there are things like CGMs and insulin pumps.

Have you talked about doing a research project on a nasty complication from diabetes with your friend? How do they feel about you looking into this part of diabetes, which isn't relevant for them for a long time to come yet?
I think it's a brilliant idea to do your project on something related to diabetes, and your friend may feel very supported by this, but I also feel that diabetic neuropathy may not be the best subject. What about looking into something that's relevant for your newly diagnosed young friend right now?
