Type 1 Diabetic Rage

Hello my partner is T1 he uses free style libre 2. He gets quite bad anger outbursts really shouting & saying horrible things this happens at least once a month & is generally snappy and angry everyday, we think it’s diabetic rage does anyone else get this and what have you found to help thank you. He also has to have his eyes injected at the hospital he is 36.

What do you mean by diabetic rage? Do you mean that he gets angry and irrational when he is hypo (low blood sugar)? Hypoglycemia can cause irrational behaviour. If it's caused by a hypo then having the libre should help him to avoid hypos. (If he sets alarms to sound before his bg goes too low then he should usually be able to avoid a hypo by acting as soon as the alarm goes off).

As for being snappy and angry every day, I don't think that is a diabetic symptom, though if his bgs are out of range all the time I guess it is a possibility.

What does your partner say about this behaviour?
 
even if his rage is caused by diabetes (my mood is not much different even if my bg is 30 or 2), he has no right to snap at you. If he needs to vent his emotions, he always has a gym or at least just a pillow to yell at or hit, but not you. Try to at least leave at such a moment, think first of all about your safety. Just because you love him doesn't mean you have to put up with his behavior like that.
 
Anyway, to address the question I think it's possible that the rage is attributable to blood sugar levels. That doesn't make it acceptable, as @Zhnyaka mentioned, but it does possibly provide an explanation. And, with an explanation there's potentially avenues that can be explored to stop it happening again. An explanation doesn't make it acceptable though, I'm not saying that. But it might mean that professional help is required
 
Of course sugar levels both low and high can affect someone's mood but anger or "rage" as you describe it is more a personal problem than a diabetic one.
Abusing people around you is never acceptable no matter what difficulties you are experiencing, he should stop using his condition as an excuse for his bad behaviour and get help
 
Is he taking other meds? Someone (T2 with 3 different medications), in my social circle is absolutely foul whenever he is taking steroids.
 
I so agree, but we have to live in the real world not the world as we would like it to be. Sometimes we have to deploy all our people skills to manage some folk. Sometimes they are able to improve their behaviour, but other times they are ill or at the mercy of medical side effects and can't. Whatever the root cause, we have to keep ourselves safe, even though what we'd like to do to them is way outside social niceties.

Have the outbursts & terse behaviour been happening since the eye issues & treatment?
Does your fella drive?

If you feel unsafe in your home the police can & will help regarding domestic abuse.
 
Hello thank you all for welcoming me and for your replies ☺️ he has never hit me before he just gets in a rage sometimes something sets this off we have been looking at intermittent explosive disorder as symptoms seem similar. Hoping to get him to speak to the doctor and maybe some talking therapy and medication. Thanks for all your replies

don't think it's the diabetes causing this. Some deeper issues there
