I have just been informed that i have a small amount of background retinopathy. is there any suppliment or vitimin that could increase the strength of the eye vessels to at least give me believe that i am trying to deter deteriation in the future?
I do appreciate that tight balance is the best defence!
I am 37 yrs old, type 1 for 25years and my levels are pretty good . eyesight is excellent and i do not need glasses.
Thankyou in advance

Vitamin C has been found to aid microvascular repair in some studies. Don't know whether it does, I take 1000mg every night which isn't going to do any harm, and since starting I haven't had a cold either!

I has been shown that keeping TIGHT blood glucode control benefits retinopathy more than anything else. Background retinopathy doesn't always progress and doesn't need treatment.

I reviewed a paper on pygnogenol for the SIGN review. On a randomised trial it seemed to produce excellent improvements in blood sugar. The problem was that it costs £36 a month for the dose that they were taking (120mcgs daily) if you bought it out of Holland and Barrett. As a matter of curiosity I bought one tub at 60mcgs daily from H and B. The only effect on me was that it seemed to stop my magnesium induced diarrhea!

If you go to google scholar and type in something like "randomised controlled pygnogenol in type two diabetes" you may find the study. It was done somewhere in South America as far as I recall.
