Hello, I'm new to these forums but I've read hundreds of posts and let me say they are very informative. The reason for this post is because I'm looking for anyone who has a similar situation as I do with PDR. I've been a type 1 diabetic for nearly 20 yrs (diagnosed at the age of 5). I had pretty good control most of my life with a1c's below 7 except my teenage years where they peaked at 9.5.
Last month I started seeing tons of floaters in my right eye. It had been over a year since my last exam so I scheduled an appt. Well, needless to say I had a nice size bleed in my right eye. Got to a retina specialist the next day and was told I have PDR in both eyes. Ive had shots of Avastin and small amounts of laser in both. My retina specialist said my retinas are in darn good shape for having diabetes for 20 yrs and he thinks we will get things stabilized. Right now we are waiting to see how things look after a month and see if I need further treatment.
I'm curious if anyone has had a similar experience and what the outcome was for you. I live in the states but I'm sure treatments are similar.
I've also decided to make my way to Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, which is the best eye institute in the states, for a second opinion.
My control right now is pretty good with my last a1c at a 6.7.
I would also like to know how the shots of Avastin workef for you?
