HI
I have been searching for a couple of new books now i have been prescribed Gliclazide, and i think its about time i started taking this diet thing seriously
Any suggestions ?

Crikey - Diabetic AND Vegetarian.

I'd suggest NOT being a vegetarian (although I doubt you'll want to do that!)

Bread, pasta, potatoes and other root vegetables, pastry, flour - all these things will have a negative effect on your BG. You'll need to find out HOW eacjh of them effect your BG, or, you could just stop eating 'em!

Do you eat fish? Oily fish is great for diabetes, and shellfish are a good option for keeping BG down.

Good news is, stuff like cheese and nuts are still on the menu. Stuffed peppers, stuffed mushrooms, etc.. All good stuff.

thanks for the replys !

@patch - yes a difficult combination but i gave up eating meat 16 years ago, (and i think there are enough protein substitutes around not to go back!).. though i only stopped eating fish a couple of years ago after cutting down to weekly then monthly... but that is something i am still considering... :? i miss tuna steaks more than i ever missed any meats.

@wiflib thanks i hadn't heard of her... i have just ordered 'The Low GI Vegetarian Cookbook'
by Jennie Brand Miller and 'The Vegetarian Low-carb Diet' by Rose Elliot. Finding lots of recipes online now i have started looking!

cheers Adrian
