Type 1 Diabetic with Anxiety questions

Type of diabetes
Type 1
I am recently diagnosed with late onset type 1 diabetes (6months ago and I am 28 years old). However, through my beginning months of taking insulin, my body has been going through plenty of ups and downs, providing me with so much anxiety that I have missed work more than I would like to. Which in turn gives me more anxiety.

I would like to know if I'm not the only one this has happened to. And how long did it take for you to get a handle on it?

You're not flying solo on this trip ...

It's a mindset, it's not always easy but anxiety will pass if you wish it to. You're early on the road so give yourself some space, gradually accept it and you'll be fine

Unfortunately, I suffer from other ailments as well as type2. Anxiety and even panic attacks on occaisions. I started having acupuncture mid July. Recently felt better mentally as more relaxed. But it took at least 6 sessions before I noticed a difference in mindset

I'm worried it's going to take me longer than it should. How did you begin to control your anxieties?

Sadly acupuncture isn't available in my surrounding areas :(. I have thought about using this as an excuse to get massages though. Haha

Yes! Massages good too!
Seriously though, any form of relaxation will be good to calm the anxiety.... Perhaps a hobby you can lose yourself in
Distraction therapy can be useful..... Forum has helped me in loads of ways

Those words you used, are by definition, a self fulfilling prophecy. You're worried about the anxiety so it feeds off itself. I controlled it by simply realising I could do nothing more than challenge it. Life is like that so I'd never immerse myself in wondering what might have been, but where I am. Stress never does favours for anyone. Choose your goal, be it relaxation techniques or whatever but just wind down the stress, learn (and you will a LOT here) take comfort that many are in similar positions and know they will help you.

Don't do anymore than just breathe, know it's you down deep, and like others, you have that bridge to cross with one step at a time

Hi @natariimei Welcome to the forum :)

Like you I too suffered anxiety and then depression within 6 months of being diagnosed, it's a self fulfilling prophecy as Mike has said it's trying to break the chain. Firstly I found that fluctuating blood glucose levels affected my moods, so the better the control I had the better I felt mentally, how is your control in general ? What helped me was to develop coping strategies so for me it was meditation and exercise, when things got really bad I would simply take the dog and go for a long walk and just breathe properly. We are all different so what works for me may not work for you, but if you can find some way to release the anxiety and to relax, whether it's exercise, art, writing, doing charity work or just even deep breathing exercises then give it a go.. Diagnosis is a big shock and some people experience grief with diagnosis, either way just be kind to yourself and take one day at a time and know that it will pass and life will get easier, happy to chat on private message too, take care.
