Morning everyone have a good day

I still seem to be in the right thread here, as I'm definitely diabetic. Which type is still unclear, though. C-peptide is low, but not extremely so, anti-GAD came back negative today.
Next week the internist who did the testing will call me about the results.

Researchers in Germany have further endorsed the effectiveness of a blood test that helps determine whether some adult diabetics diagnosed as type 2 diabetes are actually in the early stages of having type 1 diabetes.
Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of Adults (LADA) like type 1 diabetes, is an autoimmune response that that destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. It is often misdiagnosed as type 2 diabetes because it looks and acts a lot like type 2– arising usually in adulthood and progressing slowly– but, unlike type 2 diabetes, LADA results from the autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing beta cells.
A test for glutamic acid decarboxylase, or GAD, antibodies, has long been used as a method of differentiating between LADA (which is sometimes referred to at type 1.5 diabetes) and type 2 diabetes in people over age 30. With LADA as well as type 1 diabetes, the body’s immune system begins to attack its own beta cells. When the immune system attacks pathogens, one weapon in its arsenal is the creation of antibodies that bind to the foreign objects and mark them as invaders. In the case of autoimmune diabetes, the body begins to create antibodies against parts of proteins that are not foreign, but rather are associated with its own beta cells. GAD is one of the earliest proteins to be targeted by antibodies, and so by testing for the presence of GAD antibodies, doctors can determine whether there is an autoimmune reaction to beta cells taking place."

It is important to remember that LADA is Type 1 diabetes, and should be treated as such. It is also important to get the full suite of autoantibody tests (GAD, ICA, IA-2, IAA, ZnT8), not just GAD, because a small but significant percentage of people will be GAD negative but positive for one of the other autoantibodies.

My hospital must be pretty much up to date, as this is exactly what the computer generated result said as an aside on my 'results page' from the hospital

Good morning everyone. I noticed I had a small mouth ulcer yesterday, have woken this morning to one side of my face so swollen that I look like a half deflated balloon. I'm going back to bed, see you all later.

It's early days yet. I've had a salt rinse and taken some paracetamol. This kind of thing always seems to happen near or at the weekend. If nowt has changed by Monday I will rethink. One XL son has already called me FaceAche! There's no loyalty in this family

Just a note. The swelling has almost disappeared and there is not even a hint of discomfort. On the downside, all of my wrinkles have reemerged. I just can't win!

I suppose it proves that my immune system is working, ho hum.

Had a lovely trip to Tenterden today and have to confess to having a naughty scone with a pot of red bush tea

I think that is acceptable. As long as a treat remains a treat to be had on high days and holidays instead of daily or weekly then that to me is OK. I would say that though, I am partial to a good scone with clotted cream.... sigh.
Glad you enjoyed it. Now you have to stand in the corner with your face to the wall and think of what you did, young lady!

Having a working immune system is worth all the wrinkles in a whole box of raisins. And those we can throw out since they're too full of sugar anyway.

I'm glad you don't have any discomfort and I hope the swelling will be gone completely very soon.

Red bush tea sounds delicious if a bit wild and woolly.
