Diabetics R Us

Late dinner here of green veggies and my first sampling of mycoprotein. That is right, protein made from fungus. : The brand in the freezer section of the supermarket here in Oz is Quorn*, and I tried the mince. It was spur of the moment so I grabbed the remaining third of contents of a salt-reduced tomato sauce bottle added water and heated it up in a pan. Once simmering I added the frozen mince and simmered for 10 minutes.
Turned out a treat. Contents: 94% mycoprotein, some egg white, barley malt extract and carmellised sugar
Per 100 g: Energy: 413 kJ, Protein: 14.9 g, Fat: 1.9g (satd < 1g), Carbs: 1.6 g, Fibre: 7.6 g and Sodium: 58 g.
Cost: for protein content it compares same or better than fish/pies/pasties.
* Just to declare I have no financial or advertising interests in the company.

Hi @Antje77, I have had a 'dry socket' in the past after an extraction'. Oil of cloves eased the pain but the dentist needs to clean the socket out. Best Wishes for whatever the trouble is and it settling down soon.

Afternoon all. Just spent an enjoyable hour listening to music, specifically Disturbed's cover version of 'The Sound of Silence'. Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of covers but this one adds to a brilliant song with layer upon layer. The video is good, too. I then viewed the reactions of people's first time of viewing the official video and it was great to see minds being blown. If you had asked me a year ago if I liked hard rock/metal you would have got a resounding 'No!' in reply. Would be interested in your take on it.

Bye the way just tested at the 2 hours after dinner meter says 2.7 is that a bit too low.

Yes, that's low. Test again, just in case. If it is still too low you'll have to treat it.

Tested again same reading taking a Gluco Tab will test again after.thought I was feeling a bit weird.

Let us know how you get on, hope it doesn't end up being a bad hypo.

We have Quorn here too, I thought the sausages were disgusting

I actually counted my carbs today; I've had 86.7g in total.

Busy day at work today but got through lots of work

I just don't know where these sudden low readings come from will give half an hour or so then test again and report back. @heh I sometimes use Quorn mince quite like it on occasion 20 gm of carbs today being strict with my self.

Reactions: heh
I had a frustrating day shopping with Mr Blue. Remind me not to take him again. To compensate for that, and the current constant rain, I had a very naughty tea. Double fried eggs, baked beans, mushrooms and chips with half a slice of Burgen bread. Started at 4.6mmol/l. Went up to 8mmol/l at the worst, but back down to the 5s by 3 hours. Phew. Worth it though.
