Diabetics should take more vitamin B12 daily

Wow, I am completely blown away by how ridiculous some of the stuff published on here is. Is this really supposed to help? Article "Research claims that diabetics should take more vitamin B12 daily" http://bit.ly/sdvW1t.

So what proportion of the target group were vegetarians? I'm guessing the answer to that simple question might go some way to explaining this result. Anyway, vitamin B12 is only found naturally in meats, eggs, some dairy products. In certain circumstances, something similar can be chemically synthesised by yeast and this is how B12 supplements are manufactured. If you tell diabetics to eat less meat, as current medical opinion does, then is it at all surprising that the target group has a B12 deficiency. I mean is anyone really shocked by that? And the advice is to take a B12 supplement? You might as well not bother as take Artificial B12. B12 is one of the most complex vitamin molecules there is and anything artificially produced is not going to behave in the body in the same way as natural B12 in meats. Do yourselves a big favour if you are on Metformin and have a B12 deficiency. Eat a steak once a week and enjoy it.

Got even a chemistry G.C.S.E?

Vitamin B12 is a you say a complex molecule. By some amazing miracle you got that one right.

It is like all other things in the known universe made of atoms.

There are different kinds of atoms.

Different kinds of atoms join up to make a molecule of B12.

There is only one way they can join together to make B12 if they joined together in a different way it would by definition not be a molecule of B12

Therefore a molecule of B12 in meat must have the same atoms as a molecule of B12 in a pill.

Go away and take your hippy alternative garbage with you. I will do this to EVERY post you make.

Customer helplines that use recorded menus that promise to put me through to the right person but never do - and being ill. Oh, and did I mention customer helplines :)
Then I shall do this to every post you make..................Give the guy a break...

A synthesised vitamin is not the same as a vitamin obtained from a natural source, and no I dont have a science degree but I do know that, that is why many vitamin suppliants are a waste of money as they are simply not absorbed into the body as they would if they were obtained naturally.

Are you two married?

Yes Sid I agree many vitamin supplements are a complete waste of money and I agree that depending on how you take them they are absorbed differently. However as long as we agree atoms are the same everywhere then we are in total agreement :D

If however you are B12 deficient then to absorb extra B12 orally you need to take thousands of times your RDA as otherwise it just gets broken down. You can just about do this with some pills you can buy but normally you would go to the doctor and have B12 injected directly for it to have any effect. Eating a steak would do you no good you would still remain B12 deficient and why I got angry with Wungnut as he directly states if you are B12 deficient you can get it just by eating a steak once a week.

B12 deficiency is a serious and potentially life threatening condition and not to be joked about.

What's the deal Wungnut? You only joined this afternoon, you've made three posts, and every one of them have been nothing but rudely critical. Sid, understand the "give the guy a break", but catch the other posts.
