I am 48, type 1 48 years old, and lived with the condition for 38 years, I have witnessed unfortunately mostly female Type 1 using this as a form of weight control while destroying them for a short-term hit to weight. I have always struggled with my weight, aka on the light side but I want to put weight on, and thankfully as tech has gotten better, with better insulin paths, Libre, etc, it has become much more manageable. I even heard my Daphne Nurse mention it 10 years ago as a recognized condition. Anyways excellent BBC article worth a watch.
