ive been a slimming world member for just over 2 years did well in the early days then piled it all plus more back on
rejoined when i was at my heaviest and never did well at all
since being diagnosed type 2 ivce steadily been losing the weight some good weeks and a few bad weeks
got this bad boy monday night
i now have more motivation to lose weight as my daughter has been in america and got me a dsaryl dixon t shirt thats too small for me (was the only one they had and it was a deal on two t shirts and she wanted one too)
im still following slimming world but instead of low fat yogurts im using full fat yogurts, double creme, creme frais ect.......still struggling with cutting out carbs but im getting to know whats really bad and whats not
still a long way to go
just hadf new bloods done so will see how things are looking when results come in

Winner winner, eat chicken dinner with no spuds. Well done

Well done.

My wife follows SW - Low fat, veg and fruit etc. As a reuslt I thought my diet was pretty good - until i was diagnosed . When I was first diagnosed I was told the SW is a good diet but not for T2, as Pasta, root veg etc are "free" and these tend to have lots of carbs.

My wife still thinks it is very strange that I can fry food in butter / Olive Oil (instead of grilling it) as it goes against everything she knows. I demostrated the difference and why SW is not exactly the best (for me at least) to her by showing the Sainsbury Greek yoghurt - Full fat = 4.1g of carbs, Low fat version = 6g.

We still do eat SW meals, we are just verry careful baout the ingreints - e.g. I don't eat potatos.

I have just asked my wife and she has said, on Slimming world, there is a version of the plan called SP (for Speed Protein). The italics are my wifes words.

So, it’s a way of controlling the main carbs (pasta, rice, potatoes and a couple of the high carb fruits like Banana)

What it doesn’t do is control pulses, which we should limit.

Slimming world promote this as a short term way to boost weight losses, and they don’t recommend it as a long term way of eating, I guess because they are all about reducing the restrictions really, and not feeling so much on a ‘diet’.

They therefore don’t sell any books which are completely SP, but they do have a lot of recipes which are SP. When you go on the Slimming world website, in the recipes section, and search for SP, there’s quite a lot of recipes there

i dont really think slimming world ever really worked for me, maybe it was the carbs that screwed me over as id bulk cook pasta meals and eat them all the time because it was cheap and filling
i tried SP and found it boring
i prefer to bulk cook in the slow cooker, i still add like baked beans but its a massive slow cooker and feeds 9 of us with leftovers and my sugar levels are usually good after
i do love mash so i add lots of butter some days i cope with it other days i dont
i allways bulk out meals with veggies
last nights tea was slimming world campfire stew......gammon (with fat) onions, peppers, mixed beans, tomatoes, baked beans herbs spices and chilli all done in slow cooker, shredded the gammon and it was lovely i had that with cheesy mash (ready made from tesco) sugars were 6.4 so im happy with that
another fave is egg and bacon pie using weight watchers wraps instead of pastry topped with cheese again sugar levels are about 7ish
i use the cheap mince beef instead of slimming world 5% fat and that works for me
ive also got thyroid problems which dont help when trying to lose weight
i still go as i see it as a break from the kids and a chance to meet new friends and i get a decent weigh as my scales change every time i stand on them

Every commercial diet has a vested interest in making sure they reap as much profit as possible so they make sure it’s unsustainable. The long term success rate is virtually non existent because low calorie, low fat diets in hugely restricted amounts cannot be sustained.

A low carb lifestyle though....

My wife loves SW - even when it means she has to get at 6.30 on a saturday to get to her class. As I was told, it is a good genreal diet, just not for us "special" people :) due to the carb levels.

i love my group
i only joined for support for my oldest who is the consultant, my anxiety would kick off every monday night, id get anxious and clam up in group when it came to me chatting about my week my heart rate would be in the 100's and id feel sick and just want to cry but now just over 2 years later i love going, ive made some great friends and now on the social team, its only writing awards but it gets me talking to a lot of people
It is a good diet and ive seen some people with HUGE losses while eating carbs but your right its not for us
im happy im 3 stone lighter and working towards my next half stone
