diagnosed last week and confused about carbs

Hello pippi and welcome.

I would say read absolutely everything you can on here especially the stuff on Greetings and Introductions. There is some really useful info on there. You already seem to know something about the role of carbs in a daily eating plan and I am pretty sure that almost everyone on here who has had some success with controlling their BG's has in some way reduced carbs. You don't have to go really low carb if that's not what you want. Even reducing your carb intake to around 120g a day will help tremendously but it takes research...a LOT of research and a lot of attention to detail. :)There are quite a few paths to the success you want and reading all the options will help you to find the one that suits you best. Testing your BG is, in my opinion, essential. Without that you won't have clue what's doing what to your BG's.

Did you read this? http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/basic-information-for-newly-diagnosed-diabetics.17088/

It's just a case of jigging things to fit your lifestyle and your tastes really. A bit tedious but quite exciting in an odd way. You will get there I know, first and foremost because you are on this forum....how can you fail! :D
