diagnosed last week

i was diagnosed as type 2 diabetes last week by gp
today i saw the diabetic nurse at the dr,s surgery. gp has stopped the zicron and has double my dose of metformin to 1000mg a day
had feet checked, weighed, waist measured and did a urine test. been referred to dietician and to have a retinal test
i see the diabetic nurse again on 2nd july, the nurse said that she wants to see how i go with the surgery keeping an eye on me, and if things havnmt changed, then to be referred to the diabetic clinic at the hospital
 
It looks like they are looking after you well. How do you feel, and what sort of diet are you planning for yourself?
 
How r u getting on with Metformin? I been on then for 2 days, really bad tummy cramps and runs :(
 
Type 2 Diagnosed March 2014. Ramipril/Metformin/Simvastatin. First two weeks on Metformin was okay as it was just the one tablet a day. No side effects noticed other than an increase in eh... "wind" to put it politely. Then started on the proper dose of two a day. One in the morning and another in the evening.
Side effects noticed... "wind". During the first two weeks I noticed some unwanted side effects which passed after the third week and no recurrences since...

Basically I may have had two or three fake mild hypos. At least that is what I think they were according to what I read later on. Mainly some feeling of giddiness, loss of concentration, and feeling badly fatigued. This soon passed after a week and now I now feel okay. My body seems to have adjusted and appears to be happy again. Well.. Apart from still having diabetes of course.

As far as I can figure it out my body was use to a certain level of sugar and due to a major change in diet (IE most of sugar suddenly taken away). It was not happy. Even though I was getting enough sugar in theory. It thought that it was having a low sugar moment. Even though it wasn't. Hence the feeling of giddiness and generally feeling not wonderful. Part of feeling not good could also have been not hydrated enough.

Usually during these *moments* an apple/banana and something to drink and I felt a lot better a few minutes later.

As for any other side effects.... My HbA1C went down in six weeks from 52 to 41. My Chlorestral from 5.6 to 2.9. My weight since then has gone from 114.5 kgs now to 104.7 kgs (and falling).

i,m very overweight so the diabetic nurse has referred me to a dietician, also been referred for a yearly retinal test
