Diagnosed This Week - Minimal Info Given - Not Sure What to Do

Do people find meters can vary in readings a lot? Did a light workout and got a reading of 172 (9.6) after (down from 183 not long before). An hour later, a bit before lunch - 137(7.6). I was shocked so did a second reading right then. 144 (8.0). Is this deviation common?

Meters are required to be accurate to within +/- 15% of the actual reading.
So if your reading is actually 10mmol (approx 180 in your units), then the meter is considered to be accurate enough if it shows somewhere between 8.5mmol and 11.5mmol/l ( 153-207 your units)

Not ideal, I am sure you agree. But realistically, most readings should be roughly in the centre, and therefore more accurate.

Unfortunately, there will always be the odd rogue reading, due to the odd rogue strip, but if you get any reading that just seems too wacky, just wash hands and retest.

Hi @jcwebguy The advice on here is fantastic. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned a book by Dr Michael Mosley THE 8 WEEK BLOOD SUGAR DIET It really was a great help to me. It took a lot of reassurance to change from low carb to high fat, after all we have all been told in the past that fat is BAD! Well not all fats are bad when combined with a low carb high fat (LCHF) diet. Get the book asap and take a few days to read through it. With this diet I have managed to come off Metformin and Simvastatin (you will probably be told to take statins, because its what 'diabetics do'..... There was info on here about statins, maybe someone can repost it, I can't find it! The diabetic nurse at my local dr's surgery told me about the book. She is far more clued up than the doctors in the practice. In fact she is now on the diet herself and said how good she feels on it. Look on the 'what have you eaten today' forum link to get some idea to what you may be able to eat. What suits me might not suit yiu, but could suit someone else etc. AND TEST, TEST, TEST! I have a SDCodefree and have just ordered a TEE2 for backup. You will probably be told by non-diabetics that testing is bad for you - one lady was praying for me because I had lost weight! Ignore all of those people and listen to the wise people on here, they really are a fantastic free resource!
