Hello

After being absolutely fine all the way through my pregnancy, having no risk factors etc - I had 3+++ of glucose show up in my pee last week and was referred for growth scan. Baby is normal size (smidge above average) and no excess fluid thankfully BUT I still had 3+++ of sugar so had the GTT.

My result came back at 11.9 at 2 hours so GD diagnosed. I saw consultant the next day and given diet advice and I have to go back in a week. I am following their advice to the letter but still getting at least one high reading a day (different times of day too :? ) 1 hour after breakfast this morning reading came back at 13.

I don't know if this is to be expected or whether when I see consultant on thursday whether with things as they are they will want to induce me at 38 weeks+ (I will be 37+3 when I see the consultant)

I am still in shock about the whole thing and bit upset so any advice or experiences is hugely appreciated.

Seems like we don't have any answers from members with experience of this for you as yet........

What I would advise is that whilst good Bg control is needed throughout the Pregnancy it may be that the numbers you quote are acceptable to your Diabetes Team / Consultant. Have you discussed this with them and what your target levels should be ? If not please take the opportunity to do so on Thursday or try phoning someone on Monday for advice.

36+2 I don't have any personal experience of this, BUT
You don't have much longer to go
I suspect that careful diet should see you to a safe delivery in a short time. They might want to monitor baby's growth and/or your blood glucose for that time, but I'd not expect any more treatment. Ask your midwife or get an appointment to see the specialist diabetes midwife. If you can get an apoointment before you deliver

Hi,

I was diagnosed at 32 weeks and have managed mostly to control with diet and exercise except for the fasting bg level before breakfast. So they have me on metformin 3 times a day which has been fine and the morning level now stays well below 5.5.

When you see your midwife and the consultant ask them if you have to be induced so early. I am going in at 39 weeks but after my last appointment I think if I pushed they would have let me go full term as our baby is average apart from having a slightly larger tummy.

It is all very frustrating and the most unusual things can send your readings up. There is a great gestational diabetes discussion link on Mumsnet which took me days to read but I felt a lot more informed after ploughing through all the comments. The Drs at my hospital have been very good but they don't seem to be able to give me any guidance with food and the dietician just told me to carry on following the diet I was and to keep exercising.

Good Luck!!
