Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with my T1D (very nearly) 25 years ago & I've always known it was sometime in September. But I have never known the exact date.
I did ask my DSN a few months ago if she could see from my records when my diagnoses date was, but she told me that her records didn't go back that far.
I will ask again at my next appointment as I now have a new nurse (at a new surgery) so they might have a little more information, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
Unfortunately my Mum doesn't remember the exact date.
Can anyone advise who I could ask to find this information out?
thanks,
Sam x
I would say your GP would know as it would be on your records their!?
@Manfer87 my dsn didn't know when I was diagnosed. The nurse at my GP's told me when I had my first insulin prescription, so I go from that date. Coming up 49 years in January! Congrats on 25 years
Hello @Manfer87 Agree that your GP is the best place to check this date, i've only been diagnosed coming up for 8 years, can't remember the date either, it was a bit of blur..
Congratulations on the 25 year dia-versary
Well if you know roughly when then just nominate a day and stick to it. I told my GPs/consultants that I have been diabetic since September 1981 however my mother has recently informed me I am a year out so it is likely my records are wrong! I was 9 at the time and had to bring in a urine sample which I associated with taking a pregnancy test! It was all quite exciting at the time.....Congratulation though!Hi @Juicyj
Hopefully they can tell me this Friday
Yeah the diagnoses process can be a bit of a fuzzy time.
I was only 7 at the time, but I do remember really specific (and odd) things about that time.
I remember my Mum trying to explain that I would need to inject & she tried making light of it & told me I'd look like a tea bag like my Uncle Tim (also a T1D) due to the BG checks & injections & that made me cry haha.
Congratulations to you also for 8 years!

Illogically I felt a little relief each time my children got past the age of diagnosis. 9 is young however I think kids probably adapt better to the diagnosis than teens.
