Hi Everyone, I’m new to the forum. I have had gestational diabetes during all of my pregnancies and my blood sugar thankfully returned to normal after, however, I’ve just had a blood test that showed that my hba1c level was 47! I’ve had the test repeated but just wondered if this second test is higher what are the usual next steps? I’ve not had a lot of information from my GP so just left to worry. I also have Barrett’s oesophagus and I’m only 38 so worried about my health so much at the moment, I struggle with meals with the reflux issues so I’m just looking for a little information and reassurance from people that are living through a similar situation and any advice on simple quick meal ideas to get me started on a healthier path! Thanks in advance for your help

Hello and welcome @Laylawilki .
Sorry you have been left to worry by your GP. You will probably find plenty of relevant advice in our forums, though.
Your HbA1c level of 47 comes just within the prediabetic range, and with a few tweaks to your diet you could resolve that and reduce that level. The main way lots of members here manage that, is to reduce carbohydrates in their diet. This is fine, as long as you are not taking meds which can induce hypos.
I appreciate with your additional condition, Barretts oesophagus, it won’t be so easy as it is for some of us. I think you are needing to eat little and often? Fairly bland foods? How are you with eggs? They are versatile. Fish? Chicken? Yogurt?
Forgive my rambling ignorance. There are better explanations of low carb than I can give, so rather than reinvent the wheel, I guide you to links that I hope will help. https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb

There are also some useful links for newly diagnosed members in my signature. Scroll down from my post to find them. Have a read, then come back and ask questions. Members here will help.
Best wishes. Pipp.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! I’m seeing my GP again today as my blood work is through so hopefully I’ll get a little more information from her too
