Diastix testing

Hello

I went to see the GP a month or so ago as I was feeling very tired.
My workload was heavy.
I had a blood test and was then sent to the hospital for a GTT test. The post sugar drink test was 22.
Not surprising as there was more sugar in that than I would consume in a yesr.
I think the fasting test was 7 something.
The GP confirmed that I have diabetes Type 2 two weeks ago and presecribed Diastix to test my urine and 3 tablets of Metaformin a day.
As my workload had eased I felt fine again by this time.
I wanted to know the baseline before starting the tablets. I hate tablets.
I have tested my urine 3 times a day before breakfast, before dinner and 3 hours after dinner and for the last
few days at random times. All negative results.
Does anyone know what the lower limit is that the Diasix will not pick up?
I am totally confused.

I was told that urine testing wont really pick up anything under 10mmol as thats the threshold where the kidneys start dumping sugar into urine. This is the reason most doctors will (reluctantly) tell you to get a meter which will give you a more acurate reading below 10 which is far too high a threshold as by that point you are at risk of slowly damaging your kidneys.
