A TV prog about bariatric (gastric) banding ops for obese people, it stated "the weight loss can also CURE diabetes"

i didnt think there was a cure as such?

some people (including my doctors) think losing weight can cure Diabetes. I will find out if it has next week.

I think the cause, and the symptoms, aren't always the same for each of us,
I'll let you know though, I'm on the Newcastle diet, week 3.

There are many different things that cause diabetes type 2 (impaired glucose tolerance).

For some, it is going over your personal fat threshold, for others it may be caused by steroids or cancer drugs. Or environmental chemicals, or genetic hereditary factors. There are other causes too. And of course then there are combinations of any of them. The result is type 2.

Not all of these will respond to weight loss. But it is a great result for those for whom it works!

Sometimes when the word "cured" or "reversed" is used, what they actually mean is that the diabetes goes into remission (stops or slows progression). This can be either on a long or short term basis.
