Thankyou @Mbaker .. an important article, well spotted. I share your optimism but like you I won't be holding my breath ..Busy prepping an IT rollout, when BBC news morning newspaper preview was on. I noticed that the front page of the Daily Express had something about Diabetes on it. I looked up the Daily Express online edition and found that the brilliant (in my opinion) Dr Sarah Hallberg had managed to get out some details:
http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/health/777963/diabetes-diet-reverses-in-10-weeks-type-two
I feel this could be a significant endorsement of what many of us already know and could pave the way to alternative initial treatment and dare I say the Eatwell plate guidelines (I am not holding my breath as the report does not come out until next year, but something has to be the straw that breaks the camels back).
As it's a low calorie trial, isn't that the continuation of the Newcastle Diet research? Thanks for highlighting this.
Anyone else notice this:
The charity Diabetes UK is funding another clinical trial to assess the impact of a low-calorie diet.
It would be interesting to know the details of THAT study - because I have noticed that many studies reporting 'dubious' or 'non-existent' benefits from LC eating simply haven't reduced their carbs enough to show any benefits...
As it's a low calorie trial, isn't that the continuation of the Newcastle Diet research?
Has anybody actually taken Ancel Keys work aand produced the reports based on all 22 (or 29) countries with regular follow up data in the same way the researchers into the risks of smoking had to do from 1951 - 1999? In the UK the decision makers are not going to help their careers by working for the well being of the ordinary citizen. They will always dance to the organ grinders tune. I assume it is the same in other countries. By quoting the corrected Keys research back to the mouthpieces it could limit their room to manoeuvre and forever evade the cruel truth of the Keys children (ie the victims of Andrew Wakefields MMR misrepresentation aided and abetted by the Daily Mail are supposedly called Wakefield children) .
With 1/12 of the global health care budget spent on diabetes I doubt the situation is going to change any time soon although I would suggest an emerging nation could make a very profitable market for itself by suppling reliable, affordable meters and ancilliary equipment to the ever increasing millions of diabetics across the world.

Truly terrifying that our government advisory bodies "experts" are giving out advice without any evidence based research to support their claims. I am amazed about cocoa though. Think I always knew about liver and offal. My mother told me. Thank you for the linkYou might find this interesting, covknit.
Very interesting - see from 17mins into the video. This shows that the lower your cholesterol the higher the overall risk of heart attacks and deaths from all causes, particularly for women. You have to wonder why doctors are pushing statins to lower cholesterol, when actually lower cholesterol is more likely to kill their patients. You might find this interesting, covknit.
