Diet and Other Chronic Conditions - Problems

Have you ever been tested for coeliac disease? I heard an interview recently that said anyone with IBS-like symptoms should be tested. It's something that should be considered in anyone having symptoms of several medical conditions.

I had tests for coeliacs twice (blood test), but it came back negative, but I definitely can't eat wheat, I get terrible IBS-D if I do. One of the main problems with IBS_D is that it depletes you of many vitamins and minerals. I'm not sure why you have been told that Vitamin D supplements are bad for you as from what I have read quickly that having kidney disease or only having one kidney can make you Vitamin D deficient http://www.davita.com/kidney-diseas...s/vitamin-d-and-chronic-kidney-disease/e/5326

You may be worried about calcium supplements with Vitamin D, but they are available on their own. DLux is an oral spray and is just Vitamin D.

Vitamin D deficiency can show all the symptoms of ME/Chronic Fatigue. I know this because I suffered for 2 1/2 years with symptoms until I did my own research and got tested for Vitamin D deficiency and this was the cause. Another vitamin deficiency - Vitamin B12 also has the same symptoms.

Feeling exhausted doesn't help when you are trying to sort out your health problems. I'd be inclined to try and get an urgent appointment with your kidney specialist, rather than going down the ME/Chronic Fatigue route. I was seeing a Chronic Fatigue nurse and once she found out that I'd been diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency and taking supplements, she said I probably won't need to see you again, you will feel much better soon - she was right.

edit: change of grammar.

Hi Denise. I feel I must have had the coeliac blood tests because I have been tested for so many things.
The vitamin D issue I am not sure about. I have read the literature about a person with kidney disease only being able to handle so much vitamin D at a time which is why I was put on a low dose. I will ask my kidney specialist when I see him in June. I have been taking vit D for about nine months now and every day. This 'illness' has come on after being on vit D supplements for months. When I was diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency I didn't actually feel this way physically. I will ask my doctor today about vitamin B12. I will go and read that link...thanks. :)

Ah, read that now. I don't have kidney failure, I have stage 3 kidney disease. They only give massive amounts to those who are in kidney failure. Mine still works just not quite as well as it should. I am on the dose that helps to keep it in the normal range, which as it says is a lower dose. If your kidneys are already completely failing staying off vitamin D is not likely to save them.

This mystery illness I have is cyclic. I spend weeks completely floored with so many symptoms ( akin to M.E), and then I get a few months where it all subsides to the extent where I can attempt normal things. I do always feel a degree of tiredness but in a relapse I come to an utter standstill. I literally find it hard to even get out of the house. I struggle to lift the kettle! It's hard to explain actually. It's like I have been whacked on the back of the head with a shovel! At these times every other ailment I have blows up too. So my acid becomes suddenly really bad, my IBS etc. My doctor tells me that all this is common with M.E. Three different GPs say I am the picture of M.E but they want me to see a specialist to confirm it.
