Not sure if this is the right forum but I'm still new to my Diabetes to it feels like the right place to ask this?
I've been gettign to grips with my diabetes over the last 6 weeks and last week the diabetic nurse told me I didn't need to see her again (unless I wanted to) as things seem to be under control with my diet changes. To that end my BG readings have been between 4.2 (lowest) and 7.1 over the last 2 weeks.
As I'm type3c with only the head of my pancreas left, I'm concerned over 'burning out' my remaining islets too quickly using Gliclazide. Given the cause of my diabetes, it could be that I slipped from my diet too much and the pancreas stopped producing insuling for a period and this has been wake up call to get back in the straight and narrow.
I've taken almost no gliclazide for the last 48hrs and the readings so far have been:
Pre Breakfast:6.4 & took 40mg Gic
Pre Lunch:6.0 (had a mid morning snack of pancake and coffee)
Late Afternoon (quick check):4.6
After late evening meal:8.8
No glic taken at night
Next Day-
Pre Breakfast:6.3 (no glic taken)
Pre Lunch:5.3
To that end, is it acceptable to try and control my diabetes by diet/exercise alone - ie when I check my BG and it's within the norm (4-7) then I could/should lay off the Gliclazide?
