Someone needs to petition for PepsiCo and Coca-cola and other drink companies to stop putting aspartame in their drinks if there really is a possibility it causes that many things, since I drink fizzy drinks all the time, my eyes are continually blurry, low motivation to control diabetes and sometimes minor hearing impairment along with depression on top of the chronic depression I have, many times I drink pepsi max I can sort of taste the difference from still/sparkling flavoured water for example, I can sort of feel a difference in my body, and when I don't drink it, its like getting out of its withdrawal like its some sort of drug.
Hello nmr1991, if you are addicted to 'fizzy drinks' then you should look to the coke with the green label on, this is a different ingredient to sweeten the taste. As a T2 I cannot drink the fizzy drinks any longer, makes me go to the loo a lot. The types of things that you drink can have an effect of your overall control, and if your readings are high as well as your HbA1c @ 14% sounds rather high. The high levels will make your eyes go bleary do the the pressure being high, have you had your retinopathy test done to check your eye condition? I also have depression and an under active thyroid, high blood pressure and just been confirmed with hearing loss in both ears, and my eyes get tired and achy, so things are quite similar. I drink the Robinsons no added sugar squash as my cool drink, which I find the better drink for me.(summer fruits is my favourite) you could use chilled sparkling water to mix a drink with, but I just put half a bottle into a 4 pint milk bottle top up with tap water and chill, it does the job just fine. I would say don't blame the drink's for your problems, you are 'over dosing' and it is having a bad effect on your overall condition control, ttfn from Karen.

I don't drink any fizzy drink that has sugar in it apart from those that have sugars naturally occurring like flavoured water, I would only drinki sugar drinks like milkshakes, supplement shakes and fruit juices because they both taste good and are nutritional, coke however isn't so thats the reason I drink Pepsi Max, diet coke, and anything thats got zero or sugar free on it. I did see that coke life uses a stevia extract as an alternative sweetener which i know is in some fruit juices but again I would not drink it if it has that small amount of sugar seeing as I drink a 2l bottle over 2 days and the guideline of drinking water is 2 litres a day, doctor and nutritionist said all forms count include milkshakes that I too am probably addicted to.

Doc did say that if u mixed sugar and water in a solution in a glass you would see a much more cloudy solution as you would if you were to see through a glass of pure water, making the point that the sugar in your blood also gets into your eyes not just putting pressure onto it but making blood clots and leaks if left untreated. As for hba1c it is just down to motivation.

Hello to all, thank you for pointing out the green label coke has sugar in it, I will now avoid this completely. Coke is only something that I have every blue moon, so I will stick with my no added sugar Robinsons squash, so for now ttfn from Karen.
