Diet sheet

I have been a diagnosed type 2 since 2000 (and on insulin for years too) and have had some good periods losing weight (I am 21 st now), but generally find it hard sticking to a healthy diet. The novelty of starting a healthy diet again has somewhat worn off!

Can anyone recommend a good diet sheet that I can follow closely to get going for a few weeks (other than the sheets given out by NHS clinics). Clearly at 21 stone I cannot eat like a bird without feeling very unwell, but need meals not too big and not too small, no fancy recipes that take hours and lots of money to create(!), and healthy snacks.

Any suggested websites, straightforward books, organisations or your own plan very much welcomed for straightforward diet sheets.

Thank you.

Hi Chris
Since being diagnosed type II last month, a serious diet had to be followed. At the moment I find inspiration from a cook book called the diabetes weight loss diet, Anthony Worrall Thompson/Azmina Govindji/Jane Suthering. Most of the dishes we have tried so far are very tasty and worth the effort.
The weight loss is on target as well.
Good luck with your own weight loss efforts.

Hi Chris :)

First off one size does not fit all! We are all unique and react to different foods quite differently. You need to do a bit of research and be regularly testing your blood.

You would benefit from getting yourself a Collins little gem Carb Counter (£3.99) or similar book so that you can see the values of a wide range of foods. Keep a food diary and note against each meal the self test result from before eating and 2 hours afterwards so that you can see what your food is doing to your BG levels. This will help you to decide what you can cut out or down and what you should and should not eat.

If you don’t test you will not know how to help yourself!

I was in effect forced to adopt a diet that I hoped would deal with crippling neuropathy. (Leg muscle pain.) Advice from members of this forum showed me the way.

I tried cutting right down on all carbohydrate foods - bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, etc. There was a rapid improvement, & in 3 months I was fully mobile & playing tennis again. I had also lost 14 lb & my cholesterol dropped from 5.4 to 4.3. Chronic tiredness was no longer a problem.

By way of a diet sheet, this is what I reported when I was on an X-PERT T2 diabetes course
