I'm seeing a dietitian on the 9th September never seen one before does anyone know what will happen please. I have never in 10 years or so been told to restrict anything in my diet. I am classed as type 1.5 treated as type 2 which I'm also miffed about. I'm on insulin and a sglt2

Hi @teddybear74, I'm a bog-standard type 1 but have seen a few dietitians. They will want to know what kinds of things you normally eat, I find that keeping a food diary for a week or so to be helpful with that, and then will make suggestions based on that. I've never really found it to be that helpful to be honest.

My dietician talks about my dosing etc, I eat low carb, she thinks I’m nuts but I constantly argue so she avoids the subject of food lol it’s great! I actually quite enjoy our appointments now.

I was very fortunate in that we had a brilliant dietitian in our diabetes hospital team for years. I've only had two clinic appointments since the latest one started, but she seems good so far.

A dietitian usually attends my annual diabetes review. At first she spoke about weight loss until I asked her if Type 1 means I need to have a low BMI (it is usually around 22). Then, she used to check I could carb count but now says nothing. No suggestion I change my diet or even asking what my diet is.
I assume this is because my HBA1C and TIR are better than the NICE recommendation.
I am sure she is useful for some patients but for people like me, I think my CCG could make better investment choices.
