Dietry Needs on request form

Hi all,

I am attending an Old Boys military reunion dinner soon. On the instructions they sent me there is an option to write something about 'dietry needs'.

I am on low-carbing like a lot of us. I am unsure what is best to write in so as not to confuse.

If I put in "No carbohydrates" - they would probably take that literally and not serve any whatsoever including meats etc. If I put 'low carbs' then that could be left open to interpretation as to what 'low' actually is.

I eat a lot of protein so dont want the meat rations to be cut out!

I was thinking of writing in "no to low carbohydrates, high protein, no sugar".

I hope I am not getting myself in a tis-was but I really want to challenge them on this and also to enjoy the meal! Any ideas or suggestions everyone, please.

Thanks in advance.

What I do at dinners out, is not to mention any dietry needs - but eat what I choose from what is served. eg if there is pate - you can leave the toast; you need only nibble at any bread offered. I imagine a military do will involve a meat and veg type course - so turn down the potatoes and load up on the veg. If there is a cheese and biscuits course - eat the cheese and celery and leave most of the biscuits.

Make sure you drink a couple of glasses of wine. And if there is any acidic dressing on offer - have some because it will help to lower the overall glycemic load of the meal.

Take the choc that comes with the coffee home for your wife :)

Not suggestion this as definitive advice - just explaining what I do in similar circs.

The better the restaurant, the easier it is to eat from the menu without taking in XS carbs.

I should add that I am not a low carber - but I do aim at a low GL eating regime.

At most military dinners I have been at the potatoes and veg are served separately in dishes.Pick what you want and leave the potatoes alone! :D
On the dietary issue you could put no pasta /rice /sugar. and then go from there.
Above all enjoy your evening, they are usually well worth it! :D

Yea. I have been to many many before but I was not a diabetic then!

If they have offered an option for me I think I should put it to the test! I could say that I am on a 'roastbeef' diet!

You could claim to be on "Atkins"
