Eating a diet rich in fats, particularly trans fats, can increase the risk for ischemic stroke in postmenopausal women, a new study has found.

Older women who consumed the most total fat, including monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats as well as trans and saturated fats, had a 40% higher incidence of ischemic stroke compared with those who ate the least amount of total fat, researchers found.
