Diets ??

Re: Diets ??

Hi. If your weight is plummeting it sounds like your diet already is quite good? I would avoid one of the many 'branded' diets as they are unnecessary. You need to aim for a balanced healthy diet, but for diabetics that also means keeping the carbs down and low-GI ones. The Supermarkets are full of sugar-loaded unhealthy foods so choose those that are lower sugar and not based on refined white flour. As your weight reduces and your carb intake reduces be careful to monitor your blood sugar to avoid going hypo and reduce your insulin if necessary.

Thanks :-)

Re: Diets ??

Hi Dobbie,

If your weight is plummetting as said this might sound good but it may also be that you are hyperglycemic for extended periods of time and not getting your BG down to good levels. What are your usual readings and how many readings per day? It is no good being thin if you are constantly hyper and as a result potential for, well...death!

Making your own bread is great, something I do too but it doesn't really matter about not having "sugar" added as you make bread with flour, which is a carb source. Depending on what type of flour you use it can be better or worse for you but also just because you make it yourself with no sugar doesn't mean it is fine to eat lots and lots of!

IMHO I see no real difference between eating 2 slices of white bread (even home-made) and a 35g chocolate bar if you are talking about carb levels - both will need insulin injections and actually there are probably more carbs in the 2 slices of bread.
