Differences between two meters (again)

zendy

Newbie
I'm newly diagnosed (Dec), and have been using Accu-Check Instant and Freestyle Neo Optimum.

Have some wild variances in readings. Today, I expected around 9mmol/l but I got a reading of 16.5 mmol/l on Accu-Chek and 7.5 mmol/l on Freestyle Neo Optimum from same finger prick.

They're rarely aligned (Freestyle tends to read lower, I think this is to do with how it's programmed for confidence and bias). But this isn't the first time one's said "hey you're in target, for you" and the other's said "you're heading for DKA" (I'm not, I did test ketones too).

When there's that much variance which do you trust? I often do a second reading on both meters, but today is one of the days I can't be bothered to do that (I'm autistic, too).

This much of a difference sounds like something sweet on your finger.
If you had reasons to expect around 9 mmol/l, I'd expect the 7.5 was correct and the 16.5 was a rogue reading.

Washed my hands with soap, I use Imperial Leather for hands: 16.5 was first drop, 7.5 second.

Now I'm getting 11.5 from the original 7.5 one, and 8.6 from the original 16.5 one (this was 1.5 hours later after food).
Because I get such disparate readings all the time just makes me question the validity at all. I started sticking with the Accu-Check and just use Neo Optimum for a second opinion on any particularly high reads, but wonder if there's really any point if it's going to be that wildly out all the time.

Guess I'll find out in March which has been the closest to the mark!
