This week I've been feeling quite sick. Yesterday something clicked and I realised I started a new pack of metformin. I'm only on 500mg once a day, but apparently my stomach doesnt like the Glucophage branded ones. I didn't take a tablet today and ive felt fine. I spoke to the doctor over the phone yesterday and she said she'd write me a new perscription........great. except she's only gone a specified Glucophage on the perscription instead of avoiding that one! So no tablets for me till at least tues.

I wonder if anyone else has had a similar problem with different brands?

I changed pharmacy when I was taking regular metformin as every time I had a new prescription I would get a different brand and have to endure the stomach problems every time I got a different one. The pharmacy I go to now has the same brand all the time. Since being on Glucophage SR this is all I have had. I am thinking about changing back to regular metformin as I think the SR is too slow for my stomach.

I assume you are on Glucophage SR and not plain Glucophage; look at the packet? I've been on it for 10 years with no problems but we are all different. I've occasionally been prescribed an alternative SR brand with no problems.

When I started about 15 years ago I was on the plain Glucophage but my stomach couldn't handle it. Since then I've been on Glucophage SR and have had no problems. The slow release version is a lot kinder on your system.
