Different cannula site highs

Hi guys

This morning I decided to try to put my cannula in a different place. I usually use my tummy and the left/right sides of my back just above the waist; but I decided to give my tummy a break I'd try the top half of my bum cheek.

Since then, my BGs have been higher than normal, I've gone up to 12 before breakfast and to 16.5 after breakfast even though it's the same breakfast I always have and I know how much insulin to take for it. I've inspected the site and it looks like nothing is wrong with it.

It's not that far off the spot above the waist I would usually use on my back, can that little bit of movement really make that much of a difference in the absorption of the insulin? Does anyone else use the same areas? Have you guys noticed any difference in BG levels?

If it doesn't come down before lunch I'll change the site to my tummy, but I'd rather this worked... :|

Don't wait.....change the set now....give yourself a little bit of an injection to bring your down......

Don't wait....really...I doubt if it is the change of area, probably a bad site or cannual or airbubble??

There weren't any bubbles in and the site looks fine. It could be the cannula but I haven't had any problems with the rest of this batch of Silhouettes.

BG has come down to 10 after after a correction bolus so I will keep monitoring and if I doesn't dip below 10 within the next hour or so I will change the site. I don't have my pens on me; must admit I never do only a spare cannula and reservoir to change a site.

Hi

I think you might find that by using different areas of the body will mean that insulin gets absorbed slightly different.

Yep...I didn't ask what normal levels were and changes upward were....on a normal day......I just went by my own experience nowadays of not allowing myself to get to those levels with checking everything and also changing the set......and also because I mainly use bum and legs, and when I do my tum on rare occasions I don't get any changes in my levels......but.....that's my body.....so point appreciated iHs.....

Just to let you all know; the site turned out to be quite unreliable for me so I changed it back to my tummy instead and I was back to normal levels straight away. Guess I know now not to use that area anymore :) thanks for the advice all!
