Different Meter Readings - help!!

Thank you for the replies to my question of the SD codefree being OK to use. I have been testing up to 5 times a day during the last week, and now believe that if I deduct 1.7% from the readings I should be about right. Will know better after my next Hbac which is due next April.

I have both an SD codefree and a Freestyle Freedom Lite and I use either of them according to which strips I can get my hands on at a reasonable price. They certainly read differently. My problem was that if I took my SD readings to my nurse then she might up my medication so I decided to only take Freestyle like readings to her.

After some 50 comparisons I discovered that the SD was consistent and read 1mmol/L high compared to my Freestyle. Now, when using the SD I knock one unit off and record the result.

I have just been carrying out some tests along with another contributor and the Freestyle appears to be quite accurate. That surprised me. The SD is definitely high.

That's good to know, I use the Codefree and so it means I'm doing better than I think I am. So it keeps me on my toes. But like someone else said, perhaps not the best meter to use if you're a T1.

There is a point I would like to raise here because there are circumstances where it could be important. As I have already said my SD codefree reads 1mmol/L higher than my Freestyle.

If the Freestyle reads 12 and the SD reads 13 then that is no big deal.

If the Freestyle reads 4 and the SD reads 5 then the deal is getting bigger.

Theoretically you can reach a point where you are in danger of a hypo but the SD says you are ok.

If you always use the SD and you always start shaking at (say) 4 then you know what is going on. If you change from one meter to the other as I do then it is doubly important to know that your hypo point changes as you change to the other meter. For this reason Type 1's and Type 2's on medication should be familiar with this fact.
