Type 2 Different readings ?

I use the Nexus Rx strips and after testing this morning the reading was 7.6 which is high for me so I used another strip straight away & this time the reading was 5.1 which is more what I expected it to be. How come there was such a huge difference ? Which one is accurate - confusing !

Difficult to say but these kind of readings are quite common.

You don't say if you used a different finger, (or hand) the second time around. Blood is not completely homogenous so there will be variations, and our meters are not as accurate as one might wish.

Generally meters conform to standard requiring an accuracy level of +/- 15%. So plenty of scope for errors within this range.

Thank you - I used the same finger and the same blood source - it just seems a bit worrying that this can happen !

In that case I might have expected the readings to be a little closer together, but I wouldn't worry about it though.

Try repeating the experiment sometime to see what happens.

Thank you - I have tried this before - once three times and had a different reading each time - the first higher than the subsequent ones !

If the 5.1 was within your normal range for that time of day then it is probably the 7.6 that was a rogue reading. We all get them sometimes. It can be meter inaccuracy or a meter fault, a contaminated strip, a contaminated finger, or anything along those lines. Perhaps an idea would have been to do a third test to confirm one or the other. (That's what I do if they are so far apart.)
