Hi all im type 1 have been for 15+years and im 28 female with two young babies :-)for the past couple years now ive noticed how very differeny my hypos are now and wondered if anyone else suffers the same ! I no longer suffer with sweating or shakes instead i go silly??? By silly i mean i loose focus in wat im suddenly doing and start loosing my marbles i cant concentrate and start making stupid noises and getting.highly frustrated i shout and bang things n screech its almost like a tourette ! I know im low as my sugars are always below 3! After some lemonade or biscuits i come bk to.normal !
Other ones ive had can be from loosing my vision in say one eye till my levels go bk up or i see double and have to keep one eye shut to see straight ! Others are i blurp out stupid noises n things n pull my hair, the onset is strange as i find myself slowing down in something i.was.doing and cant seem to finish wat im doing till the hypo passes ! Opinions pls :-) xx

Not experienced the shouting, making noises or slowing down but can relate to hypo's effecting vision, especially if levels drop too low.

Having been in hypo hell, nothing surprises me!

Mood swings, could mean you do anything to get your head normal again!

It could be a subliminal warning to do something about the hypo.

Thats helpful the sublimimal warning it could be couldnt it but i cant ignore it either as soon as im in this type of episode it doesnt stop or return to normal till i have some sugar.

What I do is to not treat the hypo with something like glucose or high in carbs, I treat mine by slowly upping the bloods by having a cuppa and a plain biscuit, then I have a low carb meal about fifteen minutes later, obviously you can't ignore the symptoms.

I normally have a glass of full fat lemonade if no lemonade its some digestive biscuits ! My episodes are very strange and really frustrating like my brain stops functioning properly !

That is symptomatic!
As a type 1, you do need to treat it.
I would have a word with your diabetic health care team.
Maybe you haven't got the balance right in your meds or insulin. Depending on what your taking.

I take levemir for my slow release and novo rapid for my foods. I dont always trust their judgement due to failures previously so i kinda wing it as i go i always test if i know im started to wane and they always below 3 or 2 amd before i have chance to act on it it over takes my body for those few mins where i just cant concentrate.

Full sugar lemonade is fine as is Coke or Lucozade, but digestive biscuits will take too long to work and won't get you out of the hypo quickly, liquid glucose works fastest or you can use Glucotabs or Jelly Babies.

There are two types of hypo symptoms: 1) the symptoms that are warnings - shaking, sweating, tingling muscles etc; and 2) symptoms where the hypo is impairing your cognitive function - confusion, loss of concentration, vision problems, feeling drunk etc.

You get the warnings when you are dropping and your body panics, releasing adrenaline to warn you you need to eat some sugar or you are going to drop too low. You get the loss of cognitive function when your brain is too deprived of sugar to actually work - the brain does need glucose to work.

Either way, you need to treat with some fast acting hypo treatments. It can be hard to do if your brain actually isn't working - so keep your hypo treatments scattered around, in your hand bag, pocket glove box, desk drawer - try and make it as easy as possible so you don't have to be able to think in order to be able to treat it.

Also, try and tell the people around you what your hypo symptoms are, so if they notice you acting funny, they can do the thinking for you and remind you to have a hypo treatment.

My advice as a T1 is never ignore any signs of a hypo always test. Otherwise if you continue doing or try to carry on doing certain tasks things might become more blurred, you then may loose control, of helping yourself.
You then enter a whole new ball game, that's not pleasant. Not trying to frighten you .just talking from my own experiences.
Hypos affect different people, in different ways, some at 4 some 3 some at 2mmol. It's always worth testing. ☺

Thank u yes i agree lemonade works best the biscuits i eat are so my sugars dnt drop so quickly.again after

Right, I thought you said if no lemonade its some digestive biscuit.

Tell you what a good to keep handy, those small party-size tins of Coke which contain 15g of glucose, I keep a couple in my kitchen cupboard in case of a emergency.

No no i mean i have lemonade as well, i will have a glass of lemonade and thats it but if i fancy some biscuits then i will have some aswell thats jist for favouritism tho i also have some biscuits to eat before i go for a walk to keep my energy up. I use to buy the fun sized ones but they can get a bit costly so just buy a big bottle and keep at home. Dextrose i keep in my bag as well as other sugary thinhs for emergencies if im out.
