hi,im new here,as far as i know im not diabetic,i bought a self testing blood monitor after getting jittery, shaking, at the same time just before lunch for the last week.my first reading was 4.8 that was 2 hours after food,yesterday my fasting level was 5.5,this morning my fasting blood level is 7.0,i am really confused,i have booked a drs appt for next week,why would my level be so raised from 1 morning to the next?can these monitors be way out,please be patient with me lol im a newbie,i must say your forums are really helpful.thanks for any advice you can give.

Hi. A morning fasting test can be quite variable as it depends on many factors such as the timing and size etc of the previous night's meal. Also the liver may do a glucose dump of an indeterminate amount. It is better to rely more on the 2hour after a meal figure as it relates more reliably to the effect of particular foods on your blood sugar control. Your figures overall are quite good and only a GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test) or Hba1c would show whether you have poor sugar control.
