Some more advice needed , on day 5 after diagnoses and BG is around 5.2 average , on the Metformin 500 mg once a day and doing a no carbs drill.
I have listened to many wise and good suggestions on here today . My current state is the headaches have stopped and I am detoxing, my vision however is not as good as it was but I am told like the headaches etc from no carbs this will pass as i am reajusting after eating when and what I wanted all my life just up to five days ago. My daily intake goes breakfast avocado (big one) lunch salad eggs/ham/Turkey, dinner chicken, salmon, lamb , bacon slices, salad, . Snacks , almonds, Brazil nuts, walnuts. Not sure if I can have soups yet or Indian food, kebabs (without pita of course) may expand if allowed these things. The big question is do I just bare the vision thing for a little more or do I bring in some minor carbs to settle things down .Sally and James posted earlier that James had the vision thing on the no carbs and it cleared up. On the LCHF site it says "If you’re healthy or a diabetic treated either by diet alone or just with Metformin there is no risk of hypoglycemia." which suggests to carry on with the no Carbs , I do drink around 5 big cups of tea a day with skimmed milk so I suppose I am having carbs, I also eat quite a few of the above nuts, is it just a question of a couple of rich tea biscuits say twice a day to be on the safe side?

Hi @Rog I may not be the right one to offer advice because I tend to eat more carbs than many on here however I think that you need to introduce more fat into your diet to replace the carbs. For example instead of having skimmed milk have full fat or cream, have plain full fat yoghurt - I like the Greek style, and add some berries or nuts or sprinkle some milled flax seed. Cheese and eggs are always a good standby. If you want to eat more carby food test when you have it so that you can see if you can have them again - I've found that I can eat some cereals such as oat bran and bran flakes, seeded bread, potatoes and, surprisingly baked beans. I've also discovered recently that I can eat reheated pasta with little affect on my BS.

At the present time you are feeling your way through the early stages of getting your blood glucose levels in control.
There is nothing wrong with having reduced carbs, rather than trying to have no carbs. A little bit more won't be too harmful.
It is a marathon not a sprint. There is no quick cure here, just control of it!
You have started well I might add. You need to keep low carbing but don't try to get there as quickly as you want to.
The eye thing is a consequence of fluctuating blood glucose levels.
Until you are in control, they will be bluriness, especially when your tired.

Thanks Daphne & Nosher ( love the name) I think the milk thing is an excellent idea , nosher thanks so much to, I'm in for the long haul and I am aware exceptence is key here , appreciate your comments about the eye thing because apart from that I'm actually starting to feel better in some ways than ever, I am disorientated to an extent which I put down to the change in eating.

Be careful of reducing the blood glucose levels too fast. The blurry vision is a sign that you may be reducing your levels too aggressively. I had the same blurry vision when I was aggressively reducing carbs to lower my blood glucose levels. It was scary and I found out that I could have caused lasting damage. Luckily I caused no long term damage but, wished I'd known sooner as I would have taken a more progressive long term approach.

As @nosher8355 has mentioned it's a marathon not a sprint.

Not trying to worry you just give you the caution I wished I had.

@Rog - did you not believe the answers you were already given in two separate threads on this matter, from both myself and others?
I was getting different opinions Boo from the blurred vision will just sort itself out to its dangerous.

Sorry, I deleted my post when I saw you'd asked it yet again in a 4th thread. If you're concerned by the quality and conflicting nature you perceive in the answers here, then it might be best to seek a professional medical opinion on Tuesday to get a definitive answer, pertinent to your own medical history. Your eyesight is too important to mess with.

how did you sort the blurry vision ?

I had really blurry vision for quite a while, indeed my sight reversed itself, from having to have long sighted glasses from reading glasses, then when in control, it reversed itself eventually. Back to the reading glasses, I had to move from my favourite spec at my footie ground!
I had an eye appointment, every three months through that period, simply because I'm weird!

Hopefully this will not happen to you, as everyone else has advised, just reduce your carbs slowly, it should last no more than a couple of weeks, but do go see your optician and / or your doctor.

Let us know how you get on.
