pretty discouraged today
going to do some food shopping
and its hard because i see the foods
i know will help my blood sugar levels
but i cant afford them since
covid price hikes

now all that helps is
extreme fasting
or very high doses of insulin
both are unpleasant so far

i guess there is no answer

What sort of food do you mean? I find eating low carb is cheaper than it was when I was eating lots of carbs. I eat mainly dairy and eggs and chicken and tins of tuna for my protein.

While some of the extras are nice, cheap cuts of meat and cheaper fish are good sources of protein and fats. Plus eggs (old advice about restricting eggs was overturned). I have a slow cooker so I can cook the tougher meats cheaply.
Try to buy cheeses and tuna on special offer, the cheese can be cut into portions and frozen.
I buy tinned spinach when we are relying on more expensive imported fresh veg and fry it up with curry powder or serve it with a poached egg on top.
At the moment I am buying 2 for 1 ground almonds and discounted cream if I buy two - it keeps well past the use by date so that is two weeks worth at 75% of the usual cost.
And I buy dark chocolate when it's on special.
It takes a bit of organising but if you get used to slow cooking you can cook up several meals then just add different veg or herbs and spices for variety.

If you eat animals then high fat minced beef is relatively cheap, and liver is almost free since no one wants it. Eggs and dairy also shouldn’t break the bank. You can make a big cauldron of chilli for not a lot of cash, decant it off into containers once cooked and freeze it for reheating later.

We are still basically paying the same price for meat, chicken and chicken pieces, all dairy products, eggs, fish, veggies etc. as before covid. There might be some variation in price for some food being out of stock or short supplies.

You can save money by buying food that is on special, or the stores generic brand which is what we do. When food is cheap you can bulk cook / blanch and freeze it for later.

Where are you? Here in my part of Wales prices are going up fast. No joke when income is falling in real terms.

I forgot to mention, we do not buy organic / free range stuff as this saves a shed load of money.

Sunday farmers markets are another good place to stock up on cheap veggies etc.
