Come home from work this morning and check my BS 7.5, forgot to take medication, metformin 1000mg and gliclazide 80mg, I get up and check BS and it's sitting at 7.0
I thought this would have went up with not taking medication
Thanks in advance
Sorry if this has been asked before

As far as I know, Gliclazide only works when you have eaten as it stimulates the pancreas to produce extra insulin to deal with the glucose produced from the food.

Metformin is a mild drug that does very little to lower blood sugars. It helps in other ways, one of which is to reduce the amount of glucose the liver produces - the liver produces glucose when we wake up and start the day. It accumulates in the body, so missing a dose will have no or little effect at all.

Yes, Metformin is a long term cumulative drug.
It isn't like a shot of insulin which knocks your BG down immediately.

Thanks

I am going to check again in 15mins just to see what it is

If you are eating low carb, then the figures may well keep getting better with or without the drugs
So overall you seem to be doing well ! congratulations

.
Gliclizide effects the pancreas to stimulate insulin production both withfood intake and without it, although I dont know the relative strength of each effect, it also effects bodily cells' insulin sensitivity And reduces gluconeogenesis by the liver

When I was taking Gliclazide I managed to take it late one day, lunch time rather than breakfast, then skipped lunch because I was doing stuff in the garden. Big mistake, I had a hypo. As badcat says, insulin was being produced although I'd not eaten and as for the effect and the strength, in my case it was substantial and fairly quick.
