 A man after my own heart!
The more I read the more confused I get!
The dooctors can't agree and I'm kind of going along with a little voice in my head saying ... just use a bit of common sense that's all you need but ... common sense just went out the window as I ate a full bag of prawn crackers with a frozen Chinese noodle curry!
I usually eat good quality home made but just smaller portions than I used to.

The simple diet is the 5:2 plan which is being currently researched by the University of Aston and is backed by reputable research in the US. Basically eat 600 calls/day for two days each week and eat normally on the other 5 days. on the low cal days you won't starve just eat sparingly! Couple this with exercise and you will be fine. You don't need a monitor as you won't get hypos!

I'm afraid there is no quick fix. Everyone responds differently to carbohydrates so you just have to learn what works for you. It's not about what you can and cannot eat, it's about amounts and what you eat with what.

That said take a look at http://www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to-dia ... mic-Index/

There is a table of GI at http://www.glycaemicindex.com/ Don't treat it as a list of what to buy and what not to buy. You can eat high GI foods so long as you eat them with good fats, protein and low GI foods. A good rule of thumb is that the more processed a food is, the worse it is for us.

Portion size is an important factor for most of us so use a smaller plate and take a look at http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Goodfood/Pag ... plate.aspx You would, obviously, need to choose the carbs carefully.

I'm type 2 and I get hypos.
I've been as low as three and as high as off the scale.
I've had a reading of twenty seven when all I've ate is two weetabix and a ham salad.

Weetabix is a no no for me, pure carbs I'm afraid.

Jake,

What meds are you on? If you are on a Sulfonylurea they can give you hypos.

Only Metformin but my bloods are up and down like a yo yo.
Since this hot weather arrived I'm actually doing better than ever and I've changed nowt!
Maybe I'm drinking more liquid than usual.
Liquid usually meaning tea in my case.

Weetabix is a no for me too, sent my BG reading to 17.3
Porridge made with light milk BG reading
1 slice of 9 grain bread with a poached egg 10.9

I'm not on any meds yet as I only got my meter on Thursday I'm back at the docs on Wednesday but I start the day with a reading of 10.1 :eh:

good luck to you

That's just plain weird! Maybe because all that sugar got released and mopped up in a short space of time and your insulin was just err... Hanging around?

Weetabix also means high teens for me @_@

no one is getting a kicking, unless your definition is different to mine

Frustration and confusion is difficult so your initial reply was harsh-sorry
