Hi - this is my first post on the forum and I am really looking forward to engaging with the Diabetic community. I have been Type 2 Diabetic for approx 9 years. After a really rough 6 months my HBA1c came back today and is 82! I am currently on oral meds (Gliclazide & Linagliptin) and waiting to see the nurse about next steps to reduce my hba1c. I am overweight according to my BMI and think lo carb might be the way forward but am looking for guidance in this. Any ideas on where and/or how to start this approach? I look forward to hearing from anybody with lo carb experience!!

Welcome @JLC59
Many of us have managed to get our Hba1c into non diabetic levels and come off any diabetic medication, by adopting a low carb way of life.
The added benefits for me were weight loss, improvement in blood pressure (no longer taking any blood pressure meds) improvement in cholesterol levels without the help of statins and my fatty liver seems to no longer be a fatty.
It takes a while to come up with a low carb diet you can confidently stick to long term. It pays to experiment with different low carb alternatives and use your meter to devise a way of eating that will keep your blood sugar levels where you want them and be enjoyable and sustainable.
One thing to keep in mind is that low carb can be a very powerful tool for lowering glucose levels. The Meds you are taking could cause you to go too low when taken with a low carb diet, you will need to monitor your levels closely and consult your Dr about reducing your medication when your levels start to fall.
The links above will get you started, good luck

What is your diet?
The low carb approach has been taken up by some of the medical profession now that it is so obviously working for many type 2s - it is almost a diagnostic feature of ordinariness that the low carb diet works for us. I started off at a Hba1c of 91 and seem to be maintaining reversion year on year.

The medical profession is taking it on board. My CCG that oversees my local practice has endorsed Low carb diet as a treatment for T2. Its in the Formulary that defines prescription practices, and it shares links directly to the Dr David Unwin study. It even has the infamous Unwin graphics on display.
