Dispatches

I watched this and was horrified.
The nurses on that particular ward need breaking up as they are like a load of playground bullies, how dare they treat people like that. The management need to take stock of the pressures they are creating with their tick boxes and accept that their hospital leaves a lot to be desired. People are not machines and cannot improve their illness at a given time. The whole setup was a disaster.
 
I was horrified as this is my health trust. Luckily I would go to (Name of Hospital removed), usually, rather than the Hospital featured, but (Name of Hospital removed) did mess up my father's insulin, by insisting that he should have it 3 times a day rather than once as he was used to. Over a year later and he's still swinging from too low to, at the moment, too high.
 
Pleased I wasn't the only one horrified by this programme, for the first time in many years I fear for the future of the NHS.

Sorry but I do have to disagree with some of the aspects of this thread.
Whilst I am very aware that there is a great lack of cleanliness in hospitals which in the main is due to cleaning staff and therfore those contractors, as a whole nurses are a great bunch who work for the good of the people but years ago they would have worked twice as hard.
I have been in hospital quite a few times over the years for various reasons and their work load maybe very varied now to what it was but I have seen them waltz about doing next to nothing on many occasions. On changing bed linen the cleaning of the beds was scant and lacked proper attention.
As regards the bullying of patients as that shown, many elderly and slightly senile ones will play up and need a bit of sharp talking to get them to do a few things for themselves.
Don't forget that it the programme is designed to be a "show" to get you talking and doesn't always tell the "whole truth"!... :!:
 
Of course the show was just showing the bad points, but even then what was shown at the Hospital was pretty awful. It's easy to follow the lead of the full time staff and not want to be the only one walking the ward looking to help people. I've listened to patients asking for a bed pan - or to be taken off one and the nurses saying 'hang on - give me a minute' to patients that they know can't wait or are frail. There are less nurses on a ward than there used to be, and health and safety improvements mean that a lot of nurses are unable to help due to lack of assistance, and to see half a dozen sitting and chatting doesn't help.
