DISPOSAL OF LANCETS AND TEST STRIPS

Hi, have never been advised the correct way to dispose of lancets and test strips, how do you all dispose of them ?

In the bin but then again I only change lancets when I remember... usually less than once a month..I put them in a test strip box and seal it before binning it.

I use a plastic soup container and make sure lid is on tight and bin the carton,or like bulkbiker in the test strip contatainer! K
 
My doctor prescribes a sharps bin which I collect from the pharmacy and then return to the same pharmacy for disposal.
 
I bought a sharps bin online for the lancets - have yet to look into what to do with it once full, but that will take a while. Test strips I just put in the bin - maybe I shouldn't?

Hi, i get the sharps bins on prescription from my GP, and the local council take them away when full. I book the collection online.

My used strips go in a bin under my bench.

My used Multiclix / Fastclix lancets retract in to a sealed magazine, which I save in a container and drop off at my GP's when it is full.
 
I have always had a yellow sharps bin which gets test strips, kitchen roll mini square for mopping up blood, and lancets.

I've only ever swapped one, but I can take it to the surgery and hand it in.
 
My council provide sharps bins, so I use those for needles, lancets and the bit of the Libre applicator that has the spring loaded needle. Everything else goes in my general household waste, but I will confess to shoving sewing machine needles and scalpel blades in the sharps bin :D

Lancets I never throw them away as I'm in the process of gluing them together to make a bed of nails for a local Fakir.

Hey bulkbiker, thankyou for a previous answer about spreadsheets (not got there yet but on my way) I have been changing my lancet every time- when my ( unreliable and misinformed) nurse showed me how to use the machine that I requested from her, she said I had to change it every time. I have a onetouch select plus. Do I really not have to change every time? Thanks

Well you don't have to do anything. I'm not familiar with the lancing device that comes with that meter. But as I say I change my lancets fairly irregularly.. but then I am a bit of a rebel.

Lol thanx- I sort of thought it was vitally important not to reuse as it might affect the reading.

Its more about risk of infection but I'd trust people here over a DN anytime. Some change every time others like me when they remember.. I've never had a problem so far..
 
I use a different one each time, pop the lid back on and bin it, didnt think you could use them more than once
 
I opened a new pot of strips last night, so dialled in a new lancet on my Multiclix device.
 
WOW. I single use my Multiclix. Luckily I have the Libre so only use 1 Lancet drum every 2 days. I have rhino skin and it is on number 5 and goes blunt straight away
