Hello and good morning to you all,
Around 2006 I developed high blood pressure through yrs of kidney infections and protein urea for which I was prescribed an Ace and a thiazide. A couple of yrs later I was prescribed a steroid for a couple of weeks for a chest infection. I returned to the gp who tested my urine and told me I was diabetic, I disputed this but the hospital test said otherwise.
I was then prescribed metformin 500 x3 per day, which incidentally are not particularly good at staying in my system but I've been told by diabetic nurse I would get some benefit from). I was then told to take cholesterol tablets due to raised cholesterol. I haven't felt particularly well on any of these tablets. I have refused to take a statin due to aches and pains which GPs are not particularly happy at.
In the last year I've had tendinitis in my right arm and shoulder it's not been fun. In January I moved jobs and area, I then had to change job location again within the month it was stressful but I'm robust. I then found myself crying uncontrollably in my new GP and found some sympathy. I left the surgery and was left 2 messages by the GP to make an appt re the contraindications of my medication. I returned to see a diabetic GP who thought I was there for a repeat prescription and told me as a diabetic I needed to make an appt with a diabetic GP (which could be her but I didn't have to make it with her she clearly didn't want to discuss the matter she was waiting for the phone to answer as well). I was annoyed and as I am not at deaths door I stopped my meds as an experiment.
It's been about a month and my blood sugars are better than before it varies between nothing and traces. On initial stoppage I had a strip test turn brown after eating pudding took a metformin within half hour pain in shoulder and arm got worse. I think water tablets and metformin have been a very toxic combination for me. I have been very distressed in the last couple of years when asking diabetic nurse or GP about diuretic causing glucose intolerance they have been very dismissive. My feeling is that my blood pressure will still need managing as stopping the tablet means varies from 135 to 145 and I have headaches. I am going to discuss with a diabetic GP next Thursday, does anyone have any suggestions of how I might approach this?
Kind regard
Andrea
Ps on diuretic no carb can pass my lips without raising my sugars I seem completely intolerant, which is not the case since stopping them. I have not stopped my thyroxine and hay fever tablet. I had severe sinusitis for over a month which was why I initially went to my new surgery but ended up an emotional reck and spoke of usually being robust. Diuretics are also known to cause respitory issues.
