Type of diabetes
Type 1
Right dosage right carbs, good reading after 4 hours.
But...
Serious dizziness 1 hour after food that lasts for 1-2 hours.
Diabetes related? Or something else I need to check on?

Yove said your bloods are good 4 hours after eating but are you checking your blood sugar 1 hour after eating when you're actually experiencing theses symptoms? Is dizziness a recognised hypo/hyper symptom for you?

You'd need to test your blood sugar when it's actually happening to determine whether it is blood sugar related. If readings are normal have a think about whether it's happening after a particular food or activity and get it checked out.

Dizziness stopped. Now I get a sharp twang at the back of my head every now and then. Like a rubber band bring stretched and let go.

Check 1, 2 and 3 hours after eating what your glucose is. If it's in range, I'd look at other potential sources. Might be worth to look out for inner ear infections, double check other meds. Does a walk in fresh air help? I'd air out your home for half an hour or so to rule that out as well.

When my bloods are fluctuating in either way even while in good ranges I can get dizzy. Were they in the teens when you started eating? Teens are on the high side. I also agree you need to test when it's happening. You could be going low then popping up or vice versa. It can be hard to get insulin and food there at the same time in order to stay stready. Sometimes timing your insulin dosage helps too. It wasn't as simple as counting carbs for me. Other macros in the meal matter as well. Like protein and fat. Just keep testing

It's usually in the teens. I'm eating slowly..... see if it helps

I'd feel bad if my BS was in the teens - irritable, fuzzy-headed, like my head was being clamped, thirsty,,etc

Test lots and see the pattern of your BS after meals.

It would also be sensible to rule out other conditions as this has only started recently, so do see a doctor if you'd concerned.

Let your gp know hun. If a new symptom. They can reasure you much better than me. Let me know what they say. Please.

Tinyfilosofer only guessing but have you had your eyes tested lately as you probably know diabetes can cause problems with the back of eyes when I started to have giddy spells they put it down to needing new glasses which helped also this could be why your getting a pain in back of head?Let us know please

Do you mean your blood sugar is usually in the teens? Is that the reading you think is good 4 hours after eating? Or is this the kind of reading you are seeing when you are getting symptoms of dizziness or head twanging? Either way, in the teens is high blood sugar and blood sugar up there or climbing could make you feel funny and cause some vision related symptoms sometimes.

The type 1 targets are 4-7 before meals and 5-9 90 minutes after eating.

Hour 1 after eating 17. Hour 2 will be 9. Hour 3 will be 7. Hour 4 will be 5.
Can't make it go any faster although i do hope for more stable reading. The alternative is to eat slowly but that means throwing away half my lunch and then snack. Which is really wasteful.

Another alternative would be to consider pre-bolusing to try and stop such a steep peak and drop.

As it seems you get these symptoms 1 hour after eating and 1 hour after eating you are very high it could well be that hyperglycaemia is causing these symptoms for you.

You may totally be right. I've been pre bolusing for a week. Maybe that's why the dizziness stops. But not more than 15 mins ahead though. Docs say not to. Not sure how risky it is.

Yes, but docs aren't having uncomfortable, not to mention long term risky, spikes up to 17. If you carefully monitor your blood sugar to work out when your insulin starts working, so when your blood sugar starts dropping, and eat when your at a nice level, somewhere around 5-7, then there's no risk to it. Obviously if you pre bolus and something happens that means you forget to eat then you are at risk of hypos, but that could be treated be either eating the food you bolused for if that's possible, or eating the same value of carbs that you'd bolused for in dextrose tablets. So not risky unless you are easily distracted/forgetful.

I did once or twice bolused for breakfast and then forgot all about it. But that's a different problem. Lol. Thanks for your kind attention on this subject.
