dizzy spells

my girlfrind is type2 but is suffering from dizzy spells and weekness she also has recently bin getting pains around her body paticulary her neck is this common as it is worrying her she has bin diagnosed a week and a half and has bin told virtualy nothing ? :roll:

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear about your girlfriend's problems - not sure if they are related; they may be due to high BS, but I'm no expert. There's loads of useful advice on her and so many helpful people, I'm sure someone who knows will be along to help soon...

The neck pain is not something normally associated with diabetes, but the dizzy spells and feeling of weakness certainly can be indicative of either a very high or very low blood sugar level. As she has only recently been diagnosed I would guess that it is far more likely to be high blood sugar. Do you know what the results were of the blood tests her doctor should have done?

It's vital that she knows when her blood sugar is too high or too low so if she hasn't already got a blood test monitor then she will need to get one. She could ask the doctor for one but it is unlikely they will play ball, so she may have to get one herself. They are available from any chemists and don't cost very much - anything from £6 to £30 depending on the model and what special offers are available. The test strips that they need are more expensive so its always a good idea to ask the chemist which model takes the cheapest test strips.
 
Any blood pressure problems? I've been taking various pills for years to keep this under control, and at one stage was getting the exact symptoms you describe because my blood pressure was too low. Then I tweaked the dose of one (under medical supervision), problem solved.

But blood glucose monitoring is the cornerstone for treatment of any type of diabetes, whatever the flavour, so this is your first stop.

those symptoms could be T2, but it's not a common thing. Perhaps she should see the doctor?
It could be quite unrelated.
 
You don't say whether your gf has been started on medication for her diabetes. If she has, and it is now reducing her blood sugar, this might make her feel dizzy/weak. Her body may give symptoms suggesting her blood sugar is dangerously low when it isn't, because she has become used to an abnormally high blood sugar level. It's not dangerous and will settle with time, but best if she gets a monitor and tests so she knows if she is really too low or just lower than she is used to.
 
I'd go for further tests and more information. Some of the symptoms could be from high or even low BG and as suggested could be blood pressure - or various other unrelated things.

One thing which may be related to diabetes (both types) is connective tissue and joint problems, such as Frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel etc. BG control will make these less likely over time but they will almost certainly need treatment, even if just antiinflammatory ointment. I used to get problems with my shoulders, not quite frozen but painful and limiting movement, which seldom occur nowadays.
 
I have a stiff neck and ache all over when my BG's are around 12 to 19 and feel dizzy. I also had them worse when I was put on Metformin and had to stop taking it.

I hadn't realised about the carpal tunnel and I've been experiencing that, now I know why.

I have experienced dizziness and tiredness - found it was partly due to raised blood sugar levels but also my blood pressure. Always worth going back and making a nuisance of yourself at the doctors, the more you do it the more they start to take notice I've found!!
