Hi. My partner is newly diagnosed type 2. She is on Metformin 2x500 a day and Cliclaxide 3 x 80mg a day. We go out once a week and she drinks lager with the smallest drop of lime. She gets very very dizzy once she has had her first drink. Is this something that others have found? Will it always happen with these meds? Could it be the lime and should she leave it out or change her drink. We are very new to this. She is very good with her eating and is not overweight. Help

Morning...I'm also new to this diabetic journey! I have been told that beer is the worst alcoholic drink to drink because it turns to sugar very quick...it might be the lime as well not sure. If I have a drink now which is not to often I stick to vodka and slimline tonic that seems to be ok. Ask her to start writing a food/drink diary buy a monitor and check. I've started to do this with the advice from the lovely people on here and it's helping... For instance I joined slimming world lost 11 lbs so far...a lot of people there eat mug shots (like a fat free pot noddle) any way the carbs on the packet seemed low so I thought I would give it a go. With in 2 hours my sugar raised to 10.5! That was a lesson learnt.... Everyone is different so the diary and blood sugar tests do help me.... Good luck she will be ok it takes time to get your head around but she will get there. Also anxiety can play a major part if she gets a little anxious before hand wondering if having that drink is ok to do so!.... Tell her to take it all in her stride ...and if unsure speak to the doc

I think if you read the metfomin leaflet, it may say that you should not drink alcohol while taking the medication .. Could be a reaction to the metfomin
