thanks for the replyDrink plenty and keep checking for ketones until your bg stabilises, have a read of the following that lists the symptoms and signs of DKA:

hi thanks for the reply, i only have the urine strips and theyre saying its 0.8 and has been for about 3 days now, im drinking lots of juice and water to get them away but doesn't seem to be doing muchHow long have you had ketones for? Do you have a blood ketone metre - how high are the ketones? What are you doing to get rid of them?
If I were you, I had ketones and my blood sugar was over 30 and I was feeling rough I would seriously consider going to A&E to get some support to safely get my blood sugar down & get rid of the ketones. Especially if my ketones were over 3mmol/L or I only had urine ketone testing (as that doesn't give a very accurate result)

what service is 111? sorry ive never used it beforeIf it was me, I'd phone 111 for advice. If you can't get rid of the ketones, you may be best getting medical help and advice, and getting them sorted.
thanks so much for the info, you too.111 is the out of hours doctor service in the UK. Failing that, you could go to your nearest A and E.
Best not to take risks with ketones. I've phoned 111 before and the doctor was very helpful.
Take care x

hey, no i'm supposed to be on novorapid but to be honest i havent used it in quite a while and i dont really know how to carb countHi. You don't mention your Bolus (rapid) insulin in your first post - -only the Lantus. Are you taking the Bolus now and carb-counting with it?
Hi again. I think you know that you should be using the Bolus. If you are sensible, you can do carb-counting without DAFNE. My lovely DN explained it to me in 10 minutes and I started carb-counting from my first day on the Bolus. The usual start point for the average person is one unit of Bolus to 10 gm of carb, but we are all different. To be safe and avoid a hypo, you can use a different ratio to start with such as 1 unit to 20gm carbs and use the meter 2 hours after a meal to gradually change the ratio over several days of testing. Some find they use a different ratio for different meals/time of the day.hey, no i'm supposed to be on novorapid but to be honest i havent used it in quite a while and i dont really know how to carb countbe waiting on the DAFNE course for a couple of years now.

So i've been pretty bad lately and have went on a bit of a month long binge of sugar and only lantas insulin, thinking i was ok and knew what i was doing but clearly not. for the past couple of days ive had keytones and sugars above 30 and while i am now trying ot get them back down i was just wondering if there is any signs of DKA i should watch out for? i've been having head aches for a couple days but i think thats more related to the dehydration.
